Motiv Electric Trucks may not be on everyone's radar yet but the company's future is looking bright as 2024 concludes.
The Hayward, California-based OEM that specializes in zero-emission battery-electric medium-duty trucks and buses announced last week that its fleet successfully logged its five millionth all-electric mile driven on roadways. This is a significant step for the company, which has been developing and testing electrified powertrains for 15 years, partnering with major industry players along the way.
Founded in 2009, manufacturing kicked not long after, began building electric step vans, box trucks, and shuttles. To date, over 370 Motiv vehicles are on the road, delivering over 300 million pounds of products. The company points out, according to internal diagnostic data, it achieved a 98 percent uptime in 2023, resulting in the reduction of over 15 million pounds of C02 and about a ton of PM 2.5 articulate matter.
This has already led to a reduction in poor air quality that typically affects low-income communities that are located near ports, warehouses, and major highways.
Last May at the 2024 ACT Expo, the company unveiled its all-new and fully-integrated Argo medium-duty electric chassis.

“We are very appreciative of our customers for believing in us, sharing our vision of cleaner commerce, and investing clean trucking to benefit their communities,” said Scott Griffith, CEO of Motiv. “We’re also grateful for our employees and partners who produce such high quality and safe vehicles to make this milestone possible. We’re already looking ahead to the next 5 million miles.”
The company claims that 10 of the 20 largest medium truck duty fleets in North America are deploying Motiv vehicles, such as Purolator, Vestis, Cintas, Bimbo Bakeries, and Shasta Linen Supply.
Equally impressive, Motiv claims it provides 45 percent and 19 percent of electric step van deployments in California and overall in the U.S., respectively.
