The Cummins CNG Master Tech Qualification Program will help technicians become proficient with required inspections of compressed natural gas fuel systems, regardless of the fuel system manufacturer, AFVi says. The program has three elements:

  • Natural gas vehicle (NGV) essentials and safety practices: Technicians learn the fundamentals of working with NGVs and their unique safety features and maintenance procedures.
  • Compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system inspector training: Instruction focuses on how to conduct thorough inspections of CNG fuel systems and their components in accordance with applicable codes, standards and industry best practices, including identifying the common types of cylinder damage and remediation.
  • CNG fuel system inspector certification: Technicians will be administered an independent, comprehensive certification exam. A certification valid for five years will be awarded for achieving a score of 80% or higher.

Technicians must register with their Cummins Service Technician (CST) number. Techs who previously achieved AFVi certification may register their CST number on AFVi's website. Those who achieved AFVi certification but let their certification lapse may take a refresher course and exam at a discounted rate.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
