One of the most common fears with battery-electric vehicles of all types is range anxiety. Despite major battery technology advancements in recent years, drivers' concerns about running out of juice due to a lack of chargers remains legitimate.

Enter the Xos Hub, a state-of-the-art mobile energy storage system and DC fast charger.

Xos, already an established industry player in fleet electrification and energy solutions, has announced that its Hub has been added to the Federal General Services Administration (GSA) Schedule and is available for purchase online.

This type of contract allows commercial companies to sell its products to the federal government, as well as state and local governments. In short, the GSA Schedule allows the government and approved companies to save time and money thanks to pre-established pricing, and terms and conditions.

“As Federal agencies seek to reduce operational expenses, the total cost of ownership benefits of EVs present a massive opportunity for budget savings. The Xos Hub is the only solution of its kind, enabling fleets to bypass charging infrastructure deployment delays. With onboard energy storage and integrated EV chargers, it can be delivered and fully operational in a single day, without the red tape of local building authorities, utility upgrades, or other common roadblocks,” said Dakota Semler, CEO and Co-Founder of Xos, Inc.

The in-house developed Xos Hub can be easily and quickly deployed in remote locations without the need for a vast and expensive charging infrastructure, which also requires permits - another potential and costly delay.

Xos Hub is, simply put, a stopgap measure for EV fleets until a larger network comes online. Additionally, the Hub can be deployed in rescue situations or as a backup power source during grid outages.

“We’ve designed the Xos Hub to offer maximum flexibility and reliability in the field,” said Aldan Shank, director of mobile charging products at Xos. “Anyone starting or growing their EV fleet needs the Hub. Stationary chargers tend to come with a lot of hurdles, like site upgrades that can take months or years, expensive construction or trenching, and restrictions on leased property. The Hub gets around all those barriers, while also adding a ton of flexibility for things like offsite charging, field rescues, and resiliency.”

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
