The market expansion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered Class 8 semis has acquired its latest customer.
Trayecto, Mexico's largest trucking company with over 5,300 trucks, recently placed an order to CNG fuel system provider Hexagon Agility for 100 heavy-duty trucks as part of a collaboration with Kenworth Mexicana.
All trucks will feature the Cummins X15N engine and one of Hexagon’s two largest-ever onboard CNG fuel systems. The combined result is an impressive 1,000+ kilometers (621+ miles). Obviously this figure will vary depending on payload type, terrain, and road conditions.
Commercial vehicles powered by CNG and renewable natural gas (RNG)—especially heavy-duty Class 8 trucks—are emerging as a compelling choice for fleets across the country, amid waning sales and interest in battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell (FCEV) alternatives.
RNG, derived from captured methane, significantly reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over its lifecycle compared to traditional diesel. This reduction—both at the source and during vehicle operation—enables RNG with a negative carbon intensity score, making it one of the few fuels with such a designation.

"This is a watershed moment for clean trucking in this region of the world, where fleets have long-awaited access to a viable alternative to diesel for heavy-duty, long-haul applications," said Eric Bippus, chief commercial officer for Hexagon Agility. "We are grateful that our proven fuel systems can be part of a winning combination to bring more affordable and cleaner commercial transportation to Trayecto and many other companies."
