The City of Fontana, California is taking a significant step toward sustainable transportation through a new collaboration with zero-emission commercial vehicle manufacturer ZM Trucks, which happens to be based in the city. In fact, ZM Trucks, a subsidiary of Japan's ZO Motors, just last month opened its North American production plant and regional headquarters in Fontana.

As part of the partnership, ZM will provide Fontana with a ZM8 LWB Stake Bed, an all-electric, long-wheelbase commercial truck designed specifically for municipal use. The vehicle will first be used in a demonstration program supporting various city operations, such as logistics, facilities maintenance, and transportation services.

"This partnership marks a step toward the future we envision for Fontana," said Mayor Acquanetta Warren. "By embracing clean transportation, we're paving the way for a healthier, more sustainable city for generations to come."
The ZM8 LWB Stake Bed is engineered for durability and high performance, offering a zero-emission alternative to traditional diesel trucks. Beyond its environmental benefits, the vehicle promises lower total cost of ownership due to reduced fuel, maintenance, and operational expenses.
"We're excited to work with the City of Fontana and contribute to their forward-thinking approach to clean transportation," said Joost de Vries, CEO of ZM Trucks. "The ZM8 LWB Stake Bed delivers practical performance without compromising on sustainability, aligning perfectly with the city's goals."

In addition to delivering the vehicle, ZM will provide the necessary technical support, infrastructure consultation, and support staff training to ensure a smooth transition and integration.
Although the collaboration currently involves just one vehicle (for now), both parties see it as a meaningful demonstration of the potential benefits of electrifying municipal fleets. The initiative supports Fontana's long-term sustainability objectives while showcasing ZM's innovative and cost-effective vehicle solutions.
"ZM Trucks isn't your typical untested startup. As a subsidiary of ZO Motors Tokyo, our zero-emissions vehicles are grounded in proven and reliable technology, as well as solid funding and access to supply chain resources and partnerships that would be out of reach for most brands starting out," de Vries added.
