The manufacturer, together with Phoenix-based JoyRide Logistics and EO Charging, has officially launched its pure battery-electric long-haul tractor in the U.S. - months before rival Tesla's own Class 8 rig, conveniently named Semi, is slated to begin series production.

"This isn't just a prototype or promise-this is a fully operational, long-range electric truck that's ready to haul freight today," said Wen Han, founder, chairman, and CEO of Windrose. "We've validated our technology globally and are proud to bring it to the U.S.-one of the most important logistics markets in the world."

This zero-emission sleeper rig has already undergone major real-world testing in Asia, Europe, Oceania, and North America. In fact, it completed a 2,800-mile cross-country road trip in the U.S. where it took full advantage of public charging stations.

A second test run, from New York to Savannah, Georgia is planned in the coming months.

Still not impressed? The vehicle also recently finished a 3,000+ mile trip hauling clothing from Hong Kong to the Chinese-Kazakhstan border, proving its range, reliability, and charging capabilities.

The Windrose R700 is equipped with a 729 kWh battery, an 800V high-voltage platform capable of megawatt-level dual-inlet charging, a drag coefficient of 0.2755, and a loaded autonomous range of 670 km (416 miles). A base price of around $250,000 is rumored though this has not been formally announced.

Last January, Windrose confirmed the R700 received its certificate of conformity from the EPA, meaning it now meets the federal agency's fuel economy and emissions requirements.

Windrose confirmed to Clean Trucking plans are in place to build factories globally, including the U.S., most likely in Georgia, though there has not been a formal announcement.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
