Michigan-based Bollinger Motors invited Clean Trucking to take its battery-electric B4 class 4 chassis cab for a test drive at the 2024 ACT Expo in Las Vegas. We walked away very impressed.
We also spoke with Jim Connelly, Chief Revenue Officer at Bollinger Motors, who gave us a complete truck overview. What makes the Bollinger B4 unique is its frame, which is specifically built for an electric vehicle.
This piece of machinery was designed and built from the ground-up with substantial fleet and upfitter input to be a battery-electric cabover commercial truck. It can be customized by fleets in order to meet their business needs. Along with its unique and unobstructed frame rails that allow for easy mounting and upfit adaptation, the chassis design protects the 158 kwh battery pack and other vital components to offer impressive capability and safety.

Owner-operators can use either AC Level 2 or a DC fast-charger to achieve full battery power in nine or two hours, respectively. Maximum range on a single charge is 195 miles - more than enough for a day's work. With a total of 323 horsepower and 675 lb-ft of instant torque on hand, the B4 offers fast and quiet acceleration. And with a maximum payload of 7,325 lbs., the vehicle is more than capable of hauling various types of equipment. It has a GVWR rating of 15,500 lbs.
The B4 also comes packed with advanced safety technologies. For example, buyers can opt for the Mobileye Advanced Driver Assistance System, which consists of forward collision warning, pedestrian & cyclist collision warning, lane departure warning, headway monitoring & warning, and a speed limit indicator.
In April, Bollinger confirmed that Syncron Warranty had been chosen as its warranty provider. Bollinger Motors received IRS approval in February as a “qualified manufacturer” for clean vehicle credits under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022.
This allows for the Bollinger B4 chassis cab to qualify for the IRA’s credit for commercial clean vehicles, which provides eligible buyers a tax credit of up to $40,000 per vehicle.
The B4 will be going into production during the second half of 2024.
