Something new has arrived for zero-emission commercial trucking.

Meet the all-new Kenworth T880E, the industry's first Class 8 vocational battery-electric truck specifically for North America that's making its market debut alongside the next-generation T680E here at the 2025 ACT Expo in Anaheim, California.

Let's get straight to the nitty-gritty details.

Riding on a PACCAR-developed ePowertrain platform, the T880E boasts an integrated powertrain system that delivers between 365 and 470 continuous power and up to 605 hp with 1,850 lb-ft of torque.

Fleets will have a choice between four battery options, enabling a driving range on a single charge from 100 to over 250 miles. The latter range requires checking the box for the 625 kWh battery pack, the most powerful available. Buyers can also select from several wheelbase and vehicle configurations. The central drive eMotor was engineered to allow for wheelbase flexibility and lift axle installations.

Fleets will further appreciate the factory-installed options for high and low-voltage ePTO ports, which can be utilized to power equipment, a mechanical ePTO, as well as body configurations in conjunction with aftermarket body upfitters.

The maximum GVWR rating is up to 82,000 pounds.

What comes standard is a CCS1 DC charge port featuring a 350 kW peak charge rate that can charge up to 90 percent in approximately two hours.

Like the combustion-powered version, the T880E is still offered in set-back front axle and set-forward front axle configurations. Kenworth even carried over the T880's multi-piece hood.

Step inside and you'll find plenty of driver-focused technologies, including the OEM's SmartWheel and a 15-inch digital touchscreen. Customers can opt for RAM Mounts and factory-installed PTO switches. Some optional safety features include DigitalVision mirrors, Bendix Fusion, and lane keeping assist.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
