The Rivian Electric Delivery Van (EDV) has officially arrived in Canada.

The U.S. electric vehicle maker launched its EDV in Canada last month, with 50 vans now on the streets of Vancouver, British Columbia, making deliveries for e-commerce giant Amazon.

"We built this state-of-the-art Electric Delivery Van from the ground up, and it's unlike anything else in the market. Launching our vans in Canada is a proud moment for our entire team," said Erica Tsypin, director of B2B sales & partnerships for Rivian. "Since our first production vans hit the road in 2022, Rivian and Amazon have learned quite a lot together, which has allowed us to continuously improve the vehicle’s performance, safety and durability as Amazon has scaled these vans across many climates and geographies."

Rivian has been expanding its presence in Canada since entering the market nearly five years ago with its passenger vehicles, specifically the R1S and R1T. The electric vehicle maker currently operates a downtown Vancouver location along with service and delivery centers in Toronto, Richmond, Montreal, and Calgary. The company also maintains growing software engineering hubs in Vancouver and Toronto, which include teams from Rivian Volkswagen Group Technologies, its joint venture with Volkswagen.

"We’re excited to showcase these vehicles in our communities, bringing packages right to the customers' front door with care and confidence," added Gary Brar, owner of Rev Couriers Services LTD (REVC), which is one of Amazon's Delivery Service Partners in the Vancouver area. "We are proud to be a part of this next chapter of electric vehicles in our fleet."

In the U.S., nearly 14,000 Rivian EDVs are currently operating across the country. Amazon has also begun deploying the vans in Europe, with plans to further expand their use. Other major companies, including Ben & Jerry's ice cream, have also added Rivian EDVs to their fleets.

Amazon remains Rivian's largest EDV customer to date, with more than 25,000 vehicles delivered so far. Rivian is contracted to supply a total of 100,000 vans to Amazon by 2030.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
