What you need to know:

  • Electric freight partnership between Einride and Scan Sverige will accelerate electric trucking, sustainable transportation, and fossil-free logistics in the food supply chain
  • Battery-electric trucks will replace diesel vehicles on the Linkoping–Eskilstuna route, which accounts for 25% of Scan Sverige's refrigerated outbound volume, advancing cold chain logistics and freight electrification
  • Saga AI and smart charging infrastructure will optimize temperature-controlled transport, improving efficiency, minimizing downtime, and supporting reliable operations
  • CO2 emissions reduction of approximately 860 tons annually is expected, while strengthening Einride's position in the growing electric freight market

Electric freight technology provider Einride is back in the news only a few weeks after announcing an independent review of its autonomous EV truck safety processes. Today, the Sweden-based company has revealed it has secured a new partnership with Scan Sverige, Sweden's largest meat producer, to electrify a significant portion of its refrigerated transportation operations.

The agreement targets one of the freight industry's most demanding segments: temperature-controlled transport. Refrigerated logistics requires strict delivery schedules, high energy consumption, and continuous operational reliability, making electrification more complex than in many other freight applications.

Under the partnership, Einride will deploy battery-electric heavy-duty trucks on the approximately 160-kilometer route connecting Scan Sverige's facilities in Linkoping and Eskilstuna. The corridor represents roughly 25% of the company's refrigerated outbound volume from its Linköping distribution center.

The vehicles will operate at up to 64 tons gross combined weight and are expected to replace conventional diesel-powered trucks on the route. Scan Sverige estimates the transition will reduce emissions by approximately 860 tons of CO2e annually.

The deployment will be supported by Einride's integrated freight ecosystem, which combines electric trucks, its proprietary Saga AI optimization platform, and charging infrastructure. Charging operations are designed to fit within existing logistics workflows, utilizing depot charging at Scan Sverige's Linkoping facility alongside opportunity charging at Einride-operated stations along the route. Vehicle charging is scheduled during mandated driver rest periods to minimize operational disruption and maximize fleet utilization.

"The addition of Scan Sverige strengthens Einride's growing portfolio of enterprise customers and highlights the rising demand for scalable, fossil-free freight solutions, especially in regulated, high-volume supply chains such as food and grocery logistics," said Roozbeh Charli, CEO of Einride. "Einride is uniquely positioned as a category leader in intelligent electric and autonomous freight, helping global shippers transition their logistics while delivering immediate business value."

The deal adds to Einride's growing commercial presence in the freight sector. The company reports more than 30 enterprise customers across seven countries and approximately $92 million in expected annual recurring revenue from signed customer contracts. Einride also cites more than $800 million in potential long-term annual recurring revenue tied to joint business plans with existing enterprise customers.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
