Orange EV continues to be a leader in the battery-electric commercial vehicle market, with the announcement that its terminal truck fleet has surpassed 10 million operating hours.
To date, over 1,600 fully electric Orange EV yard tractors have been deployed in 40 states as well as four Canadian provinces. The company estimates that these customers have saved around $100 million in fuel and maintenance costs, which is expected given that BEVs, both passenger and commercial, have fewer moving mechanical parts overall.

What's more, buying often pricey diesel fuel and DEF is simply no longer necessary as fleets have eliminated around 200,000 tons of C02 emissions.
Since delivering its first truck in 2015, Orange EV's North American fleet has logged nearly 27 million miles, with 340 customers reporting 97% average uptime. Impressively, several trucks have exceeded 30,000 hours of use and remain in service, with some nearing 10 years on their original LFP batteries. With over 10 million working hours under the trucks' belt, the company has reported zero battery thermal events (aka fires), setting a new benchmark for durability in electric fleets.

As our sister site CCJ reported last summer, electrified yard tractors have taken the lead in the battery-electric commercial vehicle market, accounting for roughly 2.82% of the total yard tractor fleet.
"They have proven to be high performing, cost effective, and operationally superior to their diesel-powered counterparts," according to a CALSTART report published last summer. "Similar to ZE cargo vans, ZE yard tractors face relatively few barriers to adoption and are ideal for fleets due to their low mileage duty cycles, quick return on investment, and controlled operating environment where infrastructure can be more easily installed and managed."
