BetterFleet launches EV charging management platform for California city fleet operations

This AI-powered platform supports Roseville, California's transition to electric vehicles by optimizing charging schedules, reducing energy costs, and streamlining fleet operations. And, taxpayers aren't footing the bill.

BetterFleet, a global company specializing in implementing electric vehicle charging management solutions, has already worked with cities around the world and its latest project is right here in the U.S.

Roseville, California, located about 30 minutes northeast of Sacramento, has a fleet consisting of 41 public buses and more than 1,000 city vehicles. 

And now it's time for the Roseville Transit to retire aging diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles with battery-electric alternatives in order to meet its goal of having a zero-emission fleet in up and running by 2040.

Enter BetterFleet.

The Sydney, Australia-based company has just announced the successful implementation of its advanced and comprehensive smart charging platform for electric bus and fleet operations for the city of Roseville, California. 

The city has already acquired five electric, 40-foot transit buses, five commuter electric buses, and twelve electric on-demand vehicles, all of which are being powered by community-owned Roseville Electric Utility. To date, there are 9 Level 3 DC fast chargers and 5 Level 2 chargers. More chargers are expected in the coming years with Roseville preparing for this by future-proofing its corporation yard for the eventual expansion of charging infrastructure. 

Phase 2 of the project calls for a total of 71 chargers, though no specific completion date was provided. 

"This technology has enhanced our ability to efficiently and effectively operate our electric transit and city vehicles," said Brandy LeBeau, Fleet Manager, City of Roseville. "The addition of BetterFleet’s charge management system is an exciting milestone in our journey toward a zero-emission fleet."

So, where does the project's funding come from? Not from the taxpayers, but rather a grant from the California Energy Commission's (CEC) Clean Transportation Program which awarded BetterFleet with a separate grant.

BetterFleet says its AI-powered charge management solution tech enables cities to gain real-time visibility of EV charging sessions, as well as other key data like infrastructure status and vehicle availability.
