As the industry continues to wait for battery-electric, long-haul Class 8 semis to hit the market en masse, it's important not to overlook the light- and medium-duty BEV space.
Enter Volvo Trucks' battery-powered garbage truck, the FM Low Entry.
International recycling, waste management and energy recovery company PreZero has announced a major investment of 35 new units from Volvo, 24 of which are for the FM Low Entry, the OEM's first truck model within its lineup built exclusively for electric operations in Sweden.

“We are very happy and proud of the trust that PreZero puts in Volvo Trucks with this order for more battery-electric trucks from us. The order for 35 electric trucks is the largest to date in the recycling industry in Sweden. PreZero is truly leading the way by converting its transport to zero exhaust emissions,” says Stefan Strand, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Sweden.
PreZero's first pure battery-electric Volvo Truck entered service in 2022. Fast-forward to today, the 24 examples of the FM Low Entry have the capacity for heavy loads, excellent driver visibility, and the size and maneuverability for driving in city streets. Along with waste management, the vehicle has been designed and engineered for other tasks including distribution and construction.
Some of the trucks' features include Volvo Dynamic Steering and camera-equipped side mirrors.

PreZero has also confirmed it's placed an order for 10 Volvo FM Electric and one FL Electric, the former having received a five-star rating in the Euro NCAP truck safety assessment.
“We feel that Volvo Trucks is at the forefront when it comes to innovative development in safety and the environment. Volvo's high quality and extensive service network also give us security in our production, which is extremely important to us. We have a good collaboration that we intend to continue to develop together,” says Mårten Widlund, CEO of PreZero.
