  • EinrideAmazon partnership deploys 75 battery-electric heavy-duty semi-trucks across the U.S., scaling zero-emissions freight solutions
  • Expansion includes EV charging infrastructure at five U.S. sites, with trucks integrated into middle-mile logistics via Amazon Relay, targeting 3 million electric freight miles annually
  • Saga AI powers AI-driven fleet optimization, improving route planning, charging strategy, and electric truck efficiency

Swedish electric trucking and autonomous freight company Einride has announced a collaboration with e-commerce giant Amazon to deploy 75 battery-electric heavy-duty semi-trucks across the United States.

Building on a successful pilot phase, the expanded partnership includes not only the trucks but also the supporting critical charging infrastructure across five U.S. locations, which were not specifided. The vehicles will be integrated into Amazon's middle-mile logistics network via Amazon Relay and are expected to collectively enable up to 3 million miles of electric freight movement annually, eliminating tailpipe emissions from those operations.

Einride will also deploy its proprietary optimization platform, Saga AI, to manage fleet execution, including route planning and charging strategies for selected Amazon freight loads.

"Working with Amazon is yet another powerful validation of Einride's technology and strategic vision," said Roozbeh Charli, CEO of Einride, in a LinkedIn post. "By deploying our intelligent platform within one of the world's most sophisticated logistics networks, we are accelerating growth, while continuing to build industry-leading operational expertise."

Amazon, which already has a successful partnership with Rivian to supply EV delivery vans, is aiming for net-zero carbon emissions across its operations by 2040.

"This rollout is an important step forward in addressing one of the toughest challenges we face in decarbonizing our transportation network—electrifying heavy-duty trucking," said an Amazon spokesperson. "We're excited to continue to collaborate with Einride and learn from these operations as the trucks hit the road."

Einride's SPAC merger proceeds

Einride and Legato Merger Corp. III said in late February they secured approximately $113 million in investor funding to support their planned $1.8 billion SPAC merger, first announced in November.

The round was oversubscribed, meaning demand exceeded the capital available. The companies have now filed a Form F-4 registration statement with the SEC in connection with the proposed transaction.

The deal values Einride at a pre-money equity valuation of $1.35 billion and is expected to generate roughly $333 million in gross proceeds. This includes the previously announced $113 million raise, along with up to $220 million held in Legato's trust account, before potential redemptions and transaction-related expenses.

If completed, the transaction would see Einride listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker "ENRD." The companies are targeting a second-quarter 2026 close.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
