Hendrickson announced a new Electraax electric drive axle for Class 6-7 school bus and medium-duty trucks, the company's first drive axle and first electric axle.

The Electraax, powered by Driventic, features a fully integrated ePowertrain that combines the axle, single-speed gearbox, motor and inverter into one system. Its designed for efficiency and flexibility, Hendrickson says, with a wide range of track width, gear train, suspension. and brake options to align with different applications and specifications.

The single-speed gearbox combines a smooth ride with a reduced component count to support long-term reliability. Driventic's electric drive system adds an efficient motor with a power-dense inverter to deliver extended peak torque for sustained, consistent power.

The Electraax is purpose built for Class 6-7 commercial vehicles, including school buses and pickup-and-delivery trucks, Hendrickson says. The company says internal testing showed the designed helped deliver up to 94% system-level efficiency, extending vehicle range and reducing energy requirements.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
