Deeply discounted Bollinger B4 trucks surface after company collapse

The discounts are certainly attractive, but there is a catch that may be unacceptable to some buyers.

What you need to know:

  • Bollinger Motors November 2025 shutdown left unpaid employees and significant supplier debt.
  • Bollinger B4 electric trucks were later seized by court order and now listed for sale online.
  • The discounted Class 4 electric trucks are priced from $89,000 with no factory support.
  • Mullen Automotive's acquisition and acquired Nikola battery assets failed to stop Bollinger's collapse.

As previously reported, Bollinger Motors shut down last November 21, leaving about 70 employees unpaid along with mounting debts to suppliers.

"The money ran out," an employee who wished to remain anonymous admitted to Clean Trucking. "It was not a shock that day."

As a result of the situation, several unsold B4 trucks were seized by court order and have now appeared for sale online.

According to a report from The Detroit News, in December, a court officer took possession of 20 brand new Bollinger B4 battery-electric trucks, along with other fleet vehicles, including a 2021 Chevrolet commercial van and a 2023 Ford F-450. The seizure came after a supplier, Auto Metal Craft, won a court judgment for more than $530,000 in unpaid debts. Additional suppliers, including Dana Corporation, are reportedly seeking roughly $14 million in outstanding payments.

Discounted B4s

The 20 B4s listed for sale are advertised at significantly discounted prices, starting at $89,000. To compare, the original retail price was at least $150,000.

The sellers include certified Bollinger dealers, specifically Bergey's Truck Centers and Vanguard Truck Centers.

Interested buyers should be aware that certain examples are listed as "incomplete body—title only" and may require inspection or additional work before they can be legally registered and driven.

The Detroit News report further confirms that Bollinger will "no longer provide factory service and warranty support for dealers selling the vehicles."

Bollinger's decline

Bollinger's late 2025 collapse did not come as a huge surprise for industry watchers.

Last summer, the Michigan-based company exited court-ordered receivership, which had frozen its assets while the company faced legal action from founder and former CEO Robert Bollinger. He had filed a lawsuit seeking $10.5 million, citing a personal loan he had made to the company.

In September 2022, California-based Mullen Technologies took a controlling stake in Bollinger Motors for $148 million, later raising its ownership to 95% in June of last year. The latter deal wiped out Bollinger's debt and settled Robert Bollinger's lawsuit, bringing an end to the receivership and (supposedly) enabling the company to return to regular operations.

In July 2025, Mullen Automotive—now operating under the name Bollinger Innovations—purchased the battery assets of the bankrupt Nikola Motors for an undisclosed sum, a move that at the time suggested the company was on solid financial footing.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell & BEV Survey
The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
