  • The Volvo VNL and Volvo VNR Electric are now playable in American Truck Simulator, a simulation game with over 7 million copies sold worldwide.
  • The VNR Electric is the first battery-electric truck available in the game, designed for regional haul and urban applications with zero-tailpipe emissions.

Fans of American Truck Simulator can now drive Volvo Trucks North America's latest models, as the all-new Volvo VNL and Volvo VNR Electric have been added to the popular PC simulation game.

Developed by SCS Software, American Truck Simulator has sold more than 7 million copies globally and allows players to haul freight, build trucking businesses, and operate across an expanding map of the U.S.

The addition of the new Volvo models gives players the opportunity to experience both the latest diesel-powered VNL and the battery-electric VNR Electric.

"The game has built an incredibly passionate community that appreciates great trucks and authentic driving experiences," said Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America. "We're proud that the most modern trucks on North American roads are now part of that experience."

The all-new Volvo VNL, introduced earlier this year, features a redesigned aerodynamic exterior, updated digital driver interface, and advanced safety technologies. According to Volvo, the in-game truck was developed with input from the company's design and engineering teams to closely replicate the real vehicle's appearance, performance, sounds, and driving experience.

The Volvo VNR Electric also marks a milestone as the first battery-electric truck available in American Truck Simulator. Designed for regional haul and urban applications, the truck offers players a look at zero-tailpipe-emission freight transportation.

"As designers, we obsess over every detail of the driver experience, from the way the truck looks and feels to the sounds drivers hear every day on the road," said Brian Balicki, head of design for Volvo Trucks North America. "Together with the SCS Software team, we translated that experience into the virtual world with an exceptional level of authenticity. Players are not simply driving a digital truck; they are experiencing the same design vision and attention to detail that shaped the real vehicle."

Volvo notes that more than 750 VNR Electric trucks are currently operating in the U.S. and Canada. Collectively, those vehicles have logged more than 30 million miles while helping avoid an estimated 50,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

The following survey was sent as a link in an email cover message in February 2023 to the newsletter lists for Overdrive and CCJ. After approximately two weeks, a total of 176 owner-operators under their own authority, 113 owner-operators leased or assigned to a carrier and 82 fleet executives and 36 fleet employees from fleets with 10 or more power units had completed and submitted the questionnaire for a total of 407 qualified responses. Cross-tabulations based on respondent type are provided for each question when applicable.
