Einride moves to control entire heavy-duty EV charging stack with $38.4M Flipturn acquisition

Einride, which began trading on the Nasdaq last month, announced today that it is taking a major step toward expanding its commercial EV ecosystem with plans to acquire charging and energy management software company Flipturn, a move that would create what the company says will be North America's largest heavy-duty charging network.

The all-stock transaction, valued at approximately $38.4 million, adds more than 250 megawatts of managed charging capacity to Einride's platform, more than doubling its existing energy portfolio. The deal is expected to close later this month, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Beyond expanding its charging footprint, the acquisition positions Einride as the only company in the heavy-duty electric trucking sector offering an integrated technology platform spanning fleet optimization, charging infrastructure management, energy management and access to third-party charging networks.

As electric truck deployments grow, fleet operators are increasingly looking for ways to coordinate vehicle schedules, charging availability, electricity costs and energy demand through a single platform rather than relying on multiple software providers.

Flipturn's software manages commercial charging operations by monitoring charger health, optimizing charging schedules, reducing energy costs and handling driver access and payments. Combined with Einride's Saga AI freight platform—which the company says has supported more than 19 million electric miles globally—the technology is designed to help fleets improve vehicle utilization while lowering charging costs.

The larger charging network could also strengthen Einride's ability to negotiate access to public and third-party charging infrastructure by aggregating demand across a broader customer base.

"This acquisition is a decisive step in our U.S. scaling strategy," Einride CEO Roozbeh Charli said in a statement. "Flipturn will further strengthen Einride's software layer for electric heavy-duty freight optimization and improve our customer offering."

The transaction reflects a broader trend in the commercial EV market, where charging software and energy management are becoming increasingly important as fleets transition from pilot projects to large-scale electric truck deployments. While charging hardware remains critical, software that manages energy costs, charger uptime and fleet operations is emerging as a key competitive advantage.
